Bridge Courses Requirements and Recommendations
Requirements
The Marsilius Studies can be added onto an existing degree or doctorate. They are open to all interested parties. Participation is recommended from the third semester at the earliest. The Marsilius College awards the Marsilius Certificate upon successful participation. The requirements for obtaining the certificate are set out in § 5 of the Marsilius Studies statutes. Accordingly, the minimum requirements are
- active participation (with performance record) in two bridge seminars,
- one disciplinary course for a non-specialist audience (alternatively: another bridge seminar), and
- the presentation of one’s own (final) thesis with subsequent discussion in a colloquium.
Starting in the 2020 summer semester, it will be possible to replace a course in categories A (bridging seminars) or C (non-subject-specific course) with successful participation in four half-day workshops as part of the Nature Marsilius Visiting Professorship. The workshops do not necessarily have to be attended in the same semester.
The academic departments decide on crediting options in the disciplinary degree programs. The Marsilius College will make recommendations respectively.
Introductory courses in other disciplines are listed in the certificate as additional coursework.
Further Recommended Events
In addition to our own courses, we recommend attending:
- further introductory courses in other disciplines and methods,
- interdisciplinary events at the departments of Modern Languages, Philosophy, and Theology (for non-faculty members), or
- the Ruperto Carola lecture series
