Fellowships of the Marsilius Kolleg
OPPORTUNITIES
During their time at the Kolleg, Marsilius Fellows are released from part of their teaching obligations. For this purpose, the Kolleg provides funding equivalent to a six-month teaching replacement (approx. €40,000 per fellowship). These funds may also be used in other ways to ensure the necessary relief and to enable participation in the Marsilius Kolleg.
Fellows are entitled, both during and after their time at the Kolleg, to use the facilities of the Marsilius Kolleg free of charge for events related to their research project. In addition, they may apply for financial support for the implementation of their project. Such applications are reviewed by the administrative office and submitted to the Board of Directors for a decision.
Membership in the Kolleg also offers intangible benefits. The regular intellectual exchange with scholars from very different disciplines is experienced by participants as stimulating and inspiring.
OBLIGATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS
Fellows are required to participate in the events of the Kolleg. This includes, above all, the weekly Fellows’ Seminar, which takes place during the lecture period on Mondays at 17:30. Each Fellow reports once per semester in the seminar on the progress of their research project.
SELECTION PROCESS AND CRITERIA
Fellows are appointed by the Rectorate on the basis of a recommendation from the Selection Committee of the Marsilius Kolleg. Selection criteria include:
- scholarly excellence as demonstrated by publications,
- willingness and ability to engage in interdisciplinary dialogue, and
- a project outline that requires collaboration with members of another scholarly culture.
Applications from two or three scholars from different disciplinary cultures who propose a joint project are particularly welcome. The Marsilius Kolleg is happy to assist in identifying suitable cooperation partners.
