Formen der psychischen Adaptation an lebenslaufbezogene Herausforderungen mit einem Schwerpunkt auf dem mittleren und höheren Lebensalter, Bedeutung von subjektiv erfahrenen Alternsveränderungen im internationalen Vergleich (speziell D-USA), Untersuchung von Wechselwirkungen zwischen Altern und Umwelt (Wohnen, außerhäusliche Aktionsräume, Technikumwelten), kritische Bedingungen für den Erhalt von Alltagskompetenz im Alter, Interventionsfragen, Geschichte und Zukunft der Alternsforschung
